If God tells us in the Bible, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Isaiah 55:8), why are we still surprised when God or His message confuses us? As followers of Christ, loving and obeying God means we will at times be called to stand out and go against the norms of society. Sometimes we romanticize living a life like Jesus, when the reality is that while Jesus had a following, He was forced out of his hometown and hated by many—even his own people. So why are we surprised when we experience the same? He even made sure to warn us of this brutal reality. Surprised by Grace uses the gospel to demonstrate the unexpected character and radical grace of Jesus, and calls us to do the same.
